We knew this moment was coming.

Wealthy special interests have been fighting for years to undercut unions and roll back the benefits earned by working families. Today’s Supreme Court decision in Janus vs. AFSCME shows how far they are willing to go to attack working families. Anti-union forces think they can seize this opportunity to convince our members to abandon our union in an effort to diminish their voice in the workplace and weaken their strength at the bargaining table.

We are going to prove them wrong.

On Wednesday, June 20, from 4:30-7:30 PM, NYSUT will sponsor its 3rd annual Pride in Education Reception -- We Are One -- at The Refuge, 515 Broadhollow Rd. (Route 110) in Melville.
 
This is an opportunity for LGBTQ educators and their allies to socialize and discuss issues both related and unrelated to the challenges facing LGBTQ educators in educational communities.

Work sessions on SCHOOL BUDGET VOTE CARDS

Will be held: from 3-5 pm in the HTA office (Room 111) at the Community Center

On: Tues., May 1, Thurs., May 3, Mon., May 7

Members will address cards sent by the HTA and affix labels to PTA cards.

  • Volunteer sign up sheets are available in each building.
  • You are encouraged to attend any/all sessions for as long as you’d like.
  •  Walk-ins are always welcomed.

NYSUT Endorses Steve Stern

   Following the recommendations of local leaders and PAC representatives, the NYSUT Board of Directors has moved to endorse former county legislator Steve Stern for NYS Assembly in the 10th district.  The seat became vacant as a result of the former Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci being elected as Huntington Town Supervisor in November.

   The special election scheduled for April 24 is one of 11 around the state to fill 9 Assembly and 2 State Senate vacancies.

     This race in the 10th AD gives us a chance to put another advocate for labor
