Retirement is a very personal issue and each case is different.
 
Just a reminder that teachers who are first eligible and wish to retire at the end of this school year must submit notification in writing to the District by Thursday, December 1st in order to receive payment for unused sick leave as stipulated in the contract language noted below: 
 
ARTICLE 32. RETIREMENT BENEFITS:
 
A. A teacher who, in writing, notifies the District by December 1st, of the school year of first eligibility of his/her intention to retire will receive payment for unused sick leave at the rate of one (1) day's pay

In 2007, Governor Spitzer signed into law a bill creating a permanent School-Related Professionals Recognition Day on the state calendar. SRP Recognition Day falls on the third Tuesday of each November, often during American Education Week.

NYSUT's 90,000+ SRP members perform a variety of key roles in schools, working as bus drivers, school nurses, custodians, secretaries, grounds and maintenance workers, food service workers, teaching assistants and aides and in dozens of other job titles.

On June 9, 2016 NYSUT received favorable decisions from the Appellate Division concerning our NYSHIP buyout litigation. Below is the decision: 

"The Appellate Division, Third Department, granted NYSUT OGC's motions for reargument in both the Plainview and Roslyn NYSHIP cases, and simultaneously reversed its own prior adverse ruling that it had issued on November 25, 2015. By these decisions, the Appellate Division held that Policy Memorandum 122r3 ("Policy Memo") is null and void, and therefore, the Department of Civil Service did not have the statutory authority to limit or alter a negotiated

At last week's Long Island President's Council meeting we were made aware of a very serious situation. The teachers of the Lawrence Teachers' Association are coming to the end of theirFIFTH year without a contract, and anticipate beginning their SIXTH in September!

July 11-14, 2016 in the Conference Center at NYSUT Headquarters, 800 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham, New York.
 
The institute is designed for those new to teaching AP® or experienced educators desiring new strategies and methods to improve their teaching. Classes are held from 8 a.m. 4 p.m.
