GOTV in Special Election in AD 10

Special Election April 24 in AD 10

NYSUT Endorses Steve Stern

Following the recommendations of local leaders and PAC representatives, the NYSUT Board of Directors has moved to endorse former county legislator Steve Stern for NYS Assembly in the 10th district.  The seat became vacant as a result of the former Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci being elected as Huntington Town Supervisor in November.

The special election scheduled for April 24 is one of 11 around the state to fill 9 Assembly and 2 State Senate vacancies.

This race in the 10th AD gives us a chance to put another advocate for labor and public education in Albany and a chance to build on the impressive union electoral victories in the Pellegrino special election last May and the defeat of Con-Con in November.

The 10th Assembly district is made up of primarily of parts of the Huntington, Half Hollow Hills, South Huntington, Elwood and Cold Spring Harbor school districts.

While a special election means a much abbreviated campaign, as NYSUT did in the Pellegrino race last spring, it will be putting together an intensive effort to bring out the union vote.  This will include mailings and calls to members.  In special elections the key is to turnout the vote, in particular our members. The only way that happens is with member involvement and a collective union effort.

Thanks in advance for your assistance in getting out the vote in this Special Election.
