The HTA  worked tirelessly until 11pm on Wednesday to try to reach a settlement. There was no movement.

Thank you to over three hundred members who joined us at Thursday night's protest in front of the Herricks Community Center. Many members' brought children, spouses, friends and even pets. Colleagues continued to exercise their legal rights to protest our teachers working under an expired contract. News 12 covered this event and has been airing a clip since last night.

The Board attempted to keep us from entering the building and attending the open public Board meeting by stating they would

A few weeks ago members of the Executive Council participated in the NYSUT 47th Annual Representative Assembly (RA) in Albany. We celebrated our strength and reaffirmed our commitment to building an even stronger and more united union.

At the RA, NYSUT President, Andy Pallotta, reminded us of an old proverb, saying, "I am standing in the shade of trees I did not plant. Those that formed this great union almost 50 years ago put down strong roots.  These roots have enabled us to weather our most recent storms and come out stronger.

NYSUT's 90,000+ SRP members perform a variety of key roles in schools, working as bus drivers, school nurses, custodians, secretaries, grounds and maintenance workers, food service workers, teaching assistants and aides and in dozens of other job titles.

We encourage members to recognize all our SRPs at Herricks on Tuesday, November 20th for the valuable work they do to help our students

NYSUT Early Career Member Conference

(Open to members in the first 5 years of their employment)
Saturday, December 1 @ Huntington Hilton Hotel in Melville.

Our new members are the future of NYSUT. Almost 150,000 of our current members are 50 or more years old and will be retiring in the near future. We have to be sure that the new members that replace them understand the value of union membership as well as their predecessors do.

For this reason, NYSUT created a special conference just for Early Career Members -- a category we define as members in the first 5 years of their employment. Last

We knew this moment was coming.

Wealthy special interests have been fighting for years to undercut unions and roll back the benefits earned by working families. Today’s Supreme Court decision in Janus vs. AFSCME shows how far they are willing to go to attack working families. Anti-union forces think they can seize this opportunity to convince our members to abandon our union in an effort to diminish their voice in the workplace and weaken their strength at the bargaining table.

We are going to prove them wrong.
