FLU Season
       *With the flu season in full swing, please be cognizant that anyone who is very sick or has a contagious illness should stay home! Coming to work while being very sick, or with a fever will expose students and colleagues to catching the same illness. It also often causes the ill employee to be susceptible to catching a secondary infection and being out even longer. As per the teachers' contract a doctor's note is NOT required for an absence. Should a member be asked to supply such a note, it is important that this concern be directed to me or an executive council member so we

Retirement is a very personal issue and each case is different.
 
Just a reminder that teachers who are first eligible and wish to retire at the end of this school year must submit notification in writing to the District by Thursday, December 1st in order to receive payment for unused sick leave as stipulated in the contract language noted below: 
 
ARTICLE 32. RETIREMENT BENEFITS:
 
A. A teacher who, in writing, notifies the District by December 1st, of the school year of first eligibility of his/her intention to retire will receive payment for unused sick leave at the rate of one (1) day's pay

In 2007, Governor Spitzer signed into law a bill creating a permanent School-Related Professionals Recognition Day on the state calendar. SRP Recognition Day falls on the third Tuesday of each November, often during American Education Week.

NYSUT's 90,000+ SRP members perform a variety of key roles in schools, working as bus drivers, school nurses, custodians, secretaries, grounds and maintenance workers, food service workers, teaching assistants and aides and in dozens of other job titles.

On June 9, 2016 NYSUT received favorable decisions from the Appellate Division concerning our NYSHIP buyout litigation. Below is the decision: 

"The Appellate Division, Third Department, granted NYSUT OGC's motions for reargument in both the Plainview and Roslyn NYSHIP cases, and simultaneously reversed its own prior adverse ruling that it had issued on November 25, 2015. By these decisions, the Appellate Division held that Policy Memorandum 122r3 ("Policy Memo") is null and void, and therefore, the Department of Civil Service did not have the statutory authority to limit or alter a negotiated
