May 20th - School Budget/BOE Elections

This is an important week for our profession. Unfortunately, in the past many educators have not voted or gotten involved in elections. We have the power to invoke change. Our numbers will make a difference. Now's the time to “COLLABORATE, EDUCATE and MOTIVATE.” 
 
On Tuesday, May 20th be sure make your voice heard. Get Out the Vote by becoming involved, voting in your home district for the School Budget and BOE candidates that support education.

Reminders

A few reminders:

  • Additional volunteers are needed! We hope to see you at one or more of our Budget Vote Cards Work Sessions. The sessions are scheduled for Mon., May 5,  Wed., May 7 and Mon., May 12 from 3-5pm at the Community Center Cafeteria. Thanks for doing your part in helping to pass the school budget. You can stay for any amount of time and last minute walk-in are always welcomed.
 
  • An Informational Meeting to learn about NYSUT Benefits is being held on Wed., May 7th at Community Center Room 208 4-5pm.

Had enough of Governor Cuomo's war on public education?
Had enough high stakes testing as a substitute for learning?
Frightened by what the property tax cap is doing to our schools?
Had enough of a Governor who is a captive of the hedge fund managers and real estate interests?
 
On Monday, April 28, 2014, Governor Cuomo is scheduled to speak at Villa Lombardi's at 877 Main Street in Holbrook. Parents and teachers from across Long Island will be assembling at 4:00 P.M. to let the Governor know that we rate his performance INEFFECTIVE!

Take Action April 28!

Hope you had a relaxing Spring Break. I'd like to update you on two items:
  • The enrollment period for potential SRP UNUM enrollees has closed. I'm happy to announce that we met the enrollment quota and UNUM will be provided for SRP members who filled out the enrollment forms. Premiums will be (29.11 per month). The effective date is May 1, 2014. Please refer all questions to BettyAnn Napolitano at X8934.
