The weekend NYSUT Leadership Conference was informative and inspiring. Randi Weingarten made a surprise appearance on Sunday morning and spoke about transformational leadership and getting members involved. It was a wonderful experience to get together with colleagues from districts throughout Long Island and learn about ways to become more effective leaders.

***one full-time teaching assistant to be assigned on an as-needed basis by the principal in Grade 3

Dear Colleagues,

I recently received a letter from the president of the Carle Place Teachers' Association regarding their protracted negotiations.

Carle Place teachers are in their third year without a contract! The recent offer from the Carle Place BOE is a two-tiered salary schedule that would pay new hires substantially less than current members For example, 18 years from now in 2031, a teacher in Carle Place at MA+60, would be earning $30,000 less than they do now! Not only would that cause a revolving door of teachers in Carle Place, devalue the teaching profession, and divide union

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that I inform you that Denise Foley passed away Fri., Sept 13th. For many years, Denise was a much loved and respected teaching aide at Searingtown. Denise was also a dedicated and hardworking HTA building rep who worked tirelessly to help our members in any way she could. She spent her summers working at the Herricks Summer Recreation Program. We will remember Denise's smile, her willingingness to help others, unselfish acts of kindness and respect toward both students and fellow colleagues.

The wake will be held at:

New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506
