Professional Negotiations Committee (PNC) update

Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to provide you with a Professional Negotiations Committee (PNC) update.

The Teachers' PNC has met countless times since January in order to reach a fair successor agreement. We have another meeting scheduled for next week and continue to work diligently to negotiate, in good faith, a successor agreement before the end of the school year.

A general membership meeting is scheduled for teachers' and teaching assistants on Tues., June 24th at the Auditorium of the Community Center at 4pm. Negotiation updates for expiring contracts will be provided at this meeting whether we have successor agreements or not. Please make every effort to attend this meeting so you can acquire information firsthand and be correctly informed.

The Teaching Assistants' PNC and District also met a number of times over the past few months. On June 9th, both sides declared "impasse." This was done as both sides couldn't come to an agreement that was fair to all. Both parties have said that they are willing to meet and talk even though we are at impasse and await a mediator to work with us. The HTA continues to bargain in good faith and will work with the assigned mediator to reach a fair agreement. Details and updates to follow.

Lisa Wollos, elementary teaching assistant, has been a hard-working outspoken member of the PNC for the past three contracts. We are grateful for her dedication and representation. Lisa is retiring at the end of this school year. We will need a new elementary teaching assistant to join the Teaching Assistants' PNC. Please contact me via email at: nidya@herricksta.org if you are interested in filling this vacancy.

In unity,
Nidya Degliomini
President
Herricks Teachers' Association
