Primary Elections

Welcome back! Hope you had a relaxing and restful summer. As the year begins it is time for our members to become engaged and enact change for our profession.

At Tuesday's Opening Day meeting speech (link attached) I reminded colleagues that our strength as a union is derived from your involvement. The Primary Elections are just days away. NYSUT has refrained from making an endorsement in the governor's race. This has sent a clear message about Governor Cuomo's lack of support for education. You can make your voice heard by becoming active. An informational flyer on  Andrew Cuomo and Zephyr Teachout is attached. If you are a registered Democrat, I urge you to become involved and vote in Tuesday's Primary.  Voting will send a clear message that educators are active constituents who become involved and should be heard. A strong showing for Zephyr Teachout will send a message about how voters feel regarding Cuomo's policies and actions.

If you would like to help Ms. Teachout beat Cuomo next Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Democratic Party, you can do any or all of the following three things:
a) Be sure to VOTE!
b) Ask everyone you know to VOTE for Teachout and to tell everyone they know to VOTE for Teachout!
c) Make calls for Teachout:
Phone Bank from home!  The Teachout-Wu Campaign Team would like everyone to go sign up on the Amicus site and make 20 calls (at least).  It is very easy - you can "phone-bank" from the privacy of your own home and computer.

The second tool, a voter list request form can be used by anyone who wants to get a list of likely primary voters for their area, either to call or go door-knocking.

Thanks for stepping up and helping us to be a stronger union. Remember you CAN and DO make a difference!

In unity,
Nidya Degliomini
