Election Day, Nov. 4th, is less than two weeks away. Please take the time to look over the attached list of candidates NYSUT is officially endorsing.
NYSUT has not endorsed a candidate in the NY State Senate race in the 7th District. This district includes Herricks. Great Neck, Mineola, Roslyn, Port Washington, Westbury and many neighboring areas. The two candidates in this race are Adam Haber and Jack Martins. At the NYSUT Endorsement Conference in August, many local presidents spoke highly of Jack Martins' support for our schools and communities. He has brought much financial support to our communities and has also been very outspoken about the effects of testing, the roll out of Common Core and negative impact on our schools and communities.
Elections can bring about change if we take part in the process. I urge you to vote for candidates that will support our students, schools, profession and communities. Most importantly, I strongly urge you to go out and vote no matter who you choose to endorse in each race. Our power as NYSUT voters can make a difference. Candidates and elected officials study tracking records that show who votes in elections. Imagine the impact we could have if we did vote and helped family and friends remember to vote as well. We would suddenly gain the attention of elected lawmakers.
