Here is a synopsis of the Board of Education Meeting on Dec. 12, 2013:
*Presentation on Shelter Rock Academy by Allison Barshak
*Discussion of InBloom. District parents set up meeting with Senator Martins to discuss InBloom. Senator Martins understands and is working to address concerns. Need to get legislators to stop InBloom. NYC suing Commissioner King & SED for releasing personal info. Senator Flanagan said to be sponsoring a bill to address InBloom concerns.
Comments by BOE and attendees:
"SED is out of touch with what's going on in education."
"State trampled on our civil rights" - regarding release of personal information to private business which could be used for potential profit.
*BOE will file a statement regarding InBloom, "...Herricks BOE... demands that data on Herricks students not be transmitted to InBloom or any other private 3rd party provider." This statement will be sent to NY SED, legislators and other districts.
*Revisal of district policy regarding school admissions. Students cannot register to attend Herricks schools until proof of current residency is submitted.
*Approval of Language Immersion consultant for curriculum development and teacher training for two days in the spring.
