If you are tired of high stakes testing, APPR nonsense and more, this chance to give voice to those concerns at a peaceful and respectful protest would be a way to get involved and take action. Hope to see you there.
A Forum Outside of the Forum
An Invitation
On October 11th, Commissioner John B. King Jr. canceled the remaining State PTA sponsored education forums, including the one that was scheduled to take place in Garden City a few days later, prompting calls for King's resignation.
The State Board of Regents responded by announcing a new schedule of forums to be held throughout the state. Although the first 3 were open to the public, Tuesday's forum in Suffolk allows only those chosen by superintendents to speak, and Wednesday's Nassau forum is reserved for ticketed guests only, again chosen by districts, with questions submitted in advance.
Long Island parents and educators have waited patiently to have their legitimate concerns heard, and they will have the opportunity to do so-right outside the forums. We will peaceably and respectfully assemble. We deserve the same right to speak as the parents and teachers of Westchester, Syracuse, Albany, and Poughkeepsie.
Please join us. Please bring a statement. Students are most welcome. After all, they are so much more than a test score, and we know it. Those are the stories we must tell. Those are the stories we must hear.
On Tuesday, November 12, please assemble, beginning at 5:30 pm, in front of Ward Melville High School, 380 Old Town Rd, East Setauket.
On Wednesday, November 13, please assemble, beginning at 3:30 pm, in front of Mineola High School 10 Armstrong Road Garden City Park
