I recently received a letter from the president of the Carle Place Teachers' Association regarding their protracted negotiations.
Carle Place teachers are in their third year without a contract! The recent offer from the Carle Place BOE is a two-tiered salary schedule that would pay new hires substantially less than current members For example, 18 years from now in 2031, a teacher in Carle Place at MA+60, would be earning $30,000 less than they do now! Not only would that cause a revolving door of teachers in Carle Place, devalue the teaching profession, and divide union membership, but other locals would undoubtedly be faced with the same demands down the road.
