Registration is Now Open for Nassau Regional Office Early Career Conference 12-1-18

NYSUT Early Career Member Conference

(Open to members in the first 5 years of their employment)
Saturday, December 1 @ Huntington Hilton Hotel in Melville.

Our new members are the future of NYSUT. Almost 150,000 of our current members are 50 or more years old and will be retiring in the near future. We have to be sure that the new members that replace them understand the value of union membership as well as their predecessors do.

For this reason, NYSUT created a special conference just for Early Career Members -- a category we define as members in the first 5 years of their employment. Last February, our first ECM conference was a huge hit with the participants and we're expect an even bigger turnout this time around. In addition to demonstrating the value of union membership, it's also a great opportunity to interest newer members in becoming actively involved in their union.

To encourage participation, there is no charge to attend this conference.
Workshops offered again include:
  • Navigating the Increasingly Complex Certification Maze
  • Understanding the Protections Provided by Tenure ... And What It Doesn't Provide
  • The Career-Threatening Perils of Misusing Social Media
  • NYSUT's Education & Learning Trust - A Valuable Professional Resource for Early Career Educators
  • What You Need to Know NOW About the Teachers' Retirement System
  • What Rights and Benefits Do You Receive From Union Membership?
New workshops include:
  • Student Debt Clinic - What Resources Are Available to Help You Manage Student Debt?
  • Laws That Affect Your Professional Life (Mandated Reporting, DASA, Sexual Harassment)
  • Building Financial Security Involves More Than Waiting to Collect Your Pension
  • Discussion Groups to Explore Topics of Interest to Attendees
Breakfast and Lunch will be served and a Cocktail Reception will conclude the conference
